Tanzania: Global centre to assist Dar to look for investors

Dar es Salaam. The World Trade Centre (WTC) Dar es Salaam is assisting Tanzania to look for investors across the world, a senior official has said.To begin with, said the WTC Dar es Salaam vice president, Mr Saidi Msangi, the centre has managed to lured investors from Italy who have shown interest to invest in Tanzania’s agriculture and in infrastructure projects.
“The move follows a request by President Jakaya Kikwete to the center, when he toured South Africa recently,” Mr Msangi told reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

He was franked to the press briefing by investors from South Africa.
WTCs are powerhouses that integrate all the facilities and services necessary to transact international business and give companies (regardless of the size) the expeditious access to international market.
Currently, the WTCs Association owns a worldwide business network in more than 330 cities and 100 countries.
With the backing of the Government of Tanzania, WTC Dar es Salaam hopes to turn Tanzania into an investment hub. According to Mr Msangi, WTC Dar es Salaam will promote Tanzania as the best investment destination in East Africa.
“Previously, many investors flocked to Kenya because of its development in industrial activities…However, we have all potentials to overtake the rest of countries in the region.”
Meanwhile, the WTC Dar es Salaam has been chosen to be the center’s headquarters for East and Central Africa.
Leading the delegate, the WTC vice president Africa Relations, Mr Theo Poggenpoel said Africa was growing at a better pace than Europe and partnering with countries like Italy would help the continent develop faster through technology transfer.
“Italy has been a long-term friend to Africa and through economic blocs such as SADC [Southern Africa Development Community] and BRICS [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa], the outcome of this relation in phenomenon,” he said.
Later in the afternoon, the delegate was expected to visit the Ministry for Agriculture and Cooperatives followed by a tour to the Export Processing Zones in the country.
