CRDB launches `branches on wheels` service

The CRDB Bank Limited has launched a new service called `Branches on Wheels, which will move from one place to another to render banking services using mobile cars.

Speaking during the launch of the service yesterday, the bank\'s Managing Director, Charles Kimei, said that the service was unique and the first of its kind in the country.

He said that the current banking sector was competitive and needed innovation of new services to cater for various demands from customers.

Without disclosing the value of the two mobile branches, Dr Kimei said the introduction of the service was a start of the bank\'s plan to extend its services to people in rural areas using the mobile branches.

``We have been experiencing long queues on our Automatic Teller Machine and these two mobile branches would be used to reduce them,`` he said.

He said three more mobile branches would be opened soon to cater for the rural population.

Some of the services that will be provided by the branches include direct deposit card, deposit using teller, withdraw money, money transfer and payment making for services such as electricity bills.

Dr Kimei promised that his bank was committed to continue improving the services.

More branches will be opened in Geita, Mbozi, Iringa and Tarime with the objective of reaching more rural customers.

On the other hand, the bank has started reinforcing its internet banking services, mobile phones ( SMS banking) and its ATM services as a one-to-one personal service.

The Bank Board Chairperson, Martin Mmari, urged the public to change behaviour and start using banking services in all their transactions.

Mmari observed that while other banks have come and gone, and others experience acquisitions, CRDB Bank has been growing and improving its services.

``We have been trying to do more in terms of improving services with a view to meet customers`needs both in urban and rural areas,`` Mmari concluded.
