A BANK official yesterday identified two accused as being among 11 suspected bandits in the 168m/- robbery at the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) Limited, Ubungo Branch, in February last year.
Ms Joyce Mgenza (39) identified Ramadhani Abdulrahman Dodo (38) and Jackson Mollel (35) as among the suspects during the case’s trial at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court in Dar es Salaam.
Led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Charles Kenyela, the bank's employee, who works in the Customer Service Department, described the physical appearance of the two before pointing them out.
She also described their participation in the robbery saying Dodo was among the men who forced their way to the door of the bank's manager to demand keys of the strong room.
Ms Mgenza saw Dodo escorting one of the suspects who was pulling a polythene bag loaded with cash. According to her, she identified Mollel as the one who first entered the bank and commanded them to lie face down.
She told Principal Resident Magistrate Pellagia Khaday that the robbery occurred on February 2, last year, a few minutes after customers were allowed to enter the bank at around 8.30am.
The bank official testified that she had identified the duo before at an identification parade, which was conducted by the police at the Central Police Station on February 17 and 18, last year, respectively.
On the material day the accused, while armed with guns, stormed the bank and stole 123m/-, 16,128 US dollars and 50 Euros, all valued at over 142m/-, property of the bank and 8,651,250/-, property of customers.
