EXIM GIVES POLICE 5M/- REWARD

EXIM Bank (Tanzania) Limited yesterday gave a 5m/- reward to the police force for foiling planned robbery at its branch in Moshi.

“On behalf of the board of directors of the (Exim) bank, I am presenting the money as a token of our appreciation to gallantry displayed by police officers in Moshi last week,” Exim bank Managing Director Sabetha Mwambeja said in Dar es Salaam.

She said had it not been the excellent job done of the security forces and other state organs last Thursday, the story could have been different.

“We could be talking of massive loss of cash and life,” Mrs Mwambenja said at brief presentation ceremony held at the Police Headquarters.

She asked the IGP to accept the reward and ensure all those who were involved in the operation shared the money.

“We would like to reassure our customers that the money that they have deposited is safe and that our bank is well equipped with hi tech surveillance cameras and strong vaults that can’t be penetrated even with bombs,” she said.

Director of Administration and Finance in the Police Force Commissioner Clobwig Mtweve who was representing the IGP, Mr Said Mwema, said the police would continue drawing up strategies to curb crime.

He also urged bankers to monitor employees because on many occasions incidents of bank robbery involve people incident the institutions.

“It is now mandatory for financial institutions to have surveillance cameras and alarm systems. There is also need for such facilities to be directly linked to police stations,” Mr Mtweve said.

He said the police was ready work with financial institutions in helping to train security personnel.
