LOCAL businesses are challenged to install Tembo card machines at their selling points to facilitate easy use of the cards by clients to pay for goods and services.
Debora Msuya, the first winner of CRDB bank's Tembo card promotional campaign, said lack of Tembo card machines to many businesses were limiting the card uses. Ms Msuya won a paid up ticket to watch World Cup matches in South Africa next June.
"Very few shops have these machines. I think businesspeople have to play their role in simplifying service delivery to their customers," said Ms Msuya, hinting that her winning of the draw came through the card purchase she did at Mariedo Fashion.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over gifts to winners held today, CRDB Managing Director Charles Kimei called on Tanzanians to adopt to a habit of using cards in paying for goods or services to reduce the risk of theft and burglary as a result of walking with bulk cash.
"It is high time we changed from cash to card purchasing because the use of cards reduces chances of criminal attacks, curbs the use of fake notes and also reduces queues in banks," he said, noting that there were no charges on using cards for purchases.
CRDB offered different prizes to seven winners under the 'Watch World Cup with Tembo Card' campaign, with the first winner enjoying a fully paid up trip to South Africa.
Second winner of the first phase, Ms Pamela Kipokola, has won Sony Television flat screen '21' and others won CRDB T-shirts, balls, calendars and diaries.
