Vodacom M-PESA customers have been assured security of their money transactions over the alarming rise of mobile money cyber crimes.
Many cyber crimes have been reported in various places around the globe mostly involving West African criminal gangs without having notable mobile money cyber crimes in East African region and Tanzania in particular. In an exclusive interview with reporters yesterday, M-PESA business participating manager, Magesa Wandwi said Vodacom M-PESA service is employing a well-established system mentioning three major criteria which proves that it is quite difficult for criminals to forge.
He listed criteria to be M-PESA transactions are conducted through closed system that is not interactive with other cyber systems, M-PESA certificate and credentials allowing only authorized personals to browse their links. “Thus given the use of this stable system we are certain that our transactions are secure making it difficult for strangers to browse the links and disturb the transactions in any way without being approved by the responsible authority,” he said. About the banking services provided through mobile phones Wandwi said the controls of customers cyber crimes is under the control of the given bank as the mobile phone company simply provide gateway for the customers to access the platform . “We as a company we only act as a vehicle to enhance customers get the service but the management of customer’s security is the responsibility of the bank itself,” said Wandwi. Vodacom M-MPESA services were established in April 2008.
