Tanzania`s tourism income increased from USD862m in 2006 to USD1.25bn last year, equivalent to 31 per cent.
Acting director of National Tourism College, Arusha campus, Eunice Ulomi said the increase was a result of 782,699 visitors received last year.
He said this during the college’s first graduation ceremony where 53 students graduated in various tourism courses.
Ulomi said the income was a result of government and stakeholders’ efforts to promote the country’s tourism abroad in order to attract more foreign visitors.
"Due to continued growth of the sector, the government, in collaboration with the French government has built a new tourism in Dar es Salaam, which will teach hotel management at diploma level,” he said.
He told the graduates in cookery, reception, baking and food services to discharge their duties smartly in order to promote the country’s image abroad.
For his part, Arusha district Commissioner Raymond Mushi, who was the chief guest said, most youths in the region are engaged in tourism, which is their money spinner.
