MONEYGRAM services offered by Twiga Bancorp which were temporarily suspended last year following theft of billions of shillings, have regained popularity and proved reliable.
The bank's Operations Officer, Said Badru said at the ongoing 35th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), that over 200 people were attended to daily during peak hours.
"We are very strong and our service is back in force, much more efficient and reliable," said Mr Badru. He said on a daily basis, a minimum of 120 people are attended to at the bank's branches in Dar es Salaam.
He said security of the international money transfer network has been strengthened and that services were also being offered at Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Trade Fair grounds where Twiga Bancorp has a pavilion connected to Umoja Switch Automated Teller Machine.
Steven Matee, a retired banker, is a devoted patron who spoke well of the services which he has enjoyed for the last decade, saying that he sent money to his children studying abroad in Britain, India and the United States and that the services were not only efficient but reliable.
"It's very convenient and reliable because there is little paperwork to fill compared to other money transfer mechanisms," Matee said.
Service charge ranked between 8,000/- for transaction of up to 50,000/- locally, 10,000/- within East Africa and 12,000/- to distant places outside Africa.
