The National Microfinance Bank is conducting a market study to open up more branches in the country. Deputy Minister for Finance and Economy Omar Yusuf Mzee said it was true that more area were in need of the bank services but it has to follow set criteria before opening up more branches.
Mr Omar, who was answering a supplementary question by Diana Chilolo (Women – CCM), said things to be considered included money circulation in the area, infrastructure and if it would generate profit, to mention but a few.
The MP had asked if the bank could open up more branches at Singida town and increase the number of ATMs, saying the one branch in the area was usually congested. Anwering a basic question by Manyoni West MP Paul Lwanji (CCM), the deputy minister said the postal bank would look into the possibility of opening a branch at Itigi area in the region.
He said a market survey would be done to ascertain if the bank could make business in the area. He said the postal bank had 26 branches, mainly in regional headquarters. The MP had sought to know government plans to open up a postal bank branch at the sprawling Itigi township.
