Ubungo NBC robbery prosecution gets last chance to bring witness

The Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court in Dar es Salaam yesterday gave the prosecution in a case in which 10 people are charged with armed robbery of over 168m/- at National Bank of Commence (NBC) Limited, Ubungo Branch, last chance to bring witness.

Principal Resident Magistrate Pellaghia Khaday ordered the prosecution, led by State Attorney Edgar Luoga, to bring their last witness by January 14, next year, failure to do so other legal action would be taken. The magistrate, however, ordered the case to be mentioned on December 30.

In the case, the accused allegedly committed the offence on February 2, this year, at the bank in Kinondoni District. They allegedly stole 123m/-, 16,128 US dollars and 50 Euros, all valued at over 142m/-, the property of the bank.

On the same day at the bank, the accused also allegedly robbed four customers including Andrew Athanas, Hezron Aloyce, Eustus Butunge and Maulid Mpangala of 26m/-. Immediately before and after the time of such stealing, it is alleged, the accused threatened bank officials and customers by firing bullets in the air.
