KCB employee charged with 192 million/- theft

An employee of the Kenya Commercial Bank Tanzania Ltd has been charged in Kisutu Resident Magistrate`s Court in Dar es Salaam with stealing 192m/-, the property of the bank.

Adam Namhisa (29) appeared in court yesterday before Resident Magistrate Catherine Revocati.

The accused, who is a resident of Mbezi Beach in Kinondoni District in the city, is charged together with other people who were not in the court.

They are all alleged to have conspired to steal the money from the bank on an unknown date.

Assistant Inspector of Police Emma Mkonyi further claimed that on April 23, this year at the Kenya Commercial Bank branch situated at Ohio/Samora avenues, the accused being employees of the bank stole 45,045,000/- , the property of the bank.

The accused allegedly stole the money by using cheque number 0006261 dated April 23, 2007 which was the property of his employer. It was further claimed that the money came into his possession by virtue of his employment.

The prosecutor further claimed that on April 24, this year at the same branch, the accused stole 45,045,000/- by using cheque number 000378 dated April 24, 2007.

The prosecution further claimed that the accused on May 22, 2007 stole 45.5m/- by using cheque number 000365 dated May 22, 2007, also the property of the bank.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The case was adjourned to a later date pending completion of investigations.

The accused was granted bail after presenting to the court three sureties, with each signing a bond of 200m/- , one of them surrendering a title deed of an immovable property. The case will be mentioned on October 10, 2007.
