POLICE in Rukwa region have managed to trace and arrest two petty traders allegedly for possessing fake bank notes worth over 300,000/-.
Rukwa Police Commander Germanus Mponguliana told reporters yesterday that last Wednesday, two petty traders believed to be from Kasulu District in Kigoma region, Alex Magazine (36) and Pius Matwi (23), were arrested at Majengo ‘B’ in Mpanda town in possession of the said amount as they were trying to buy mobile phone recharge vouchers.
RPC said that the seller of the vouchers who was identified as Kedya Pala (24) suspected them on the transaction and alerted the police. The law enforcers arrived immediately and found the suspects buying the vouchers with the alleged illegal cash. When searched, they were found in possession of 300,000/- fake bank notes.
According to police, the suspects would soon be arraigned in court once the investigations are over. In another incident, a municipal resident, Oscar Samson (41), was attacked by unknown people and got away with cellular phone 'Sumsung’ worth 450,000/- and cash 250,000/-, the RPC said.
He said that the incident occurred at Moravian Centre . The police are looking for the suspects who are still at large.
