ROBBERS ATTACK BANK SECURITY VAN

Two security guards were assaulted when an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from their van outside a bank.
The robbery happened outside the HSBC branch in Tilehurst, Reading, Berkshire, on Tuesday morning.

Police are now investigating links between this robbery and a similar incident outside the same bank less than four months ago.

Two men assaulted the Securicor staff as their van approached the bank in School Road, but they were not injured.

'Nasty incident'

The offenders then fled the area in a van which was later recovered in Halls Road, Tilehurst.

Det Sgt Mark Brashaw, from Reading CID, said: "This was a nasty incident that has left the Securicor workers shaken. Fortunately they are not injured.

"There were a lot of people around the area at the time and I would urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to the police to contact me urgently.

"Although the investigation is at a very early stage, we are looking at links between this robbery and an incident at the same location in May."
