THE Dar es Salaam City Mayor, Mr Adam Kimbisa, has urged banks to develop products that can easily be accessed by poor people.
“Banks which exclude the poor do not deserve the name,” Mr Kimbisa said yesterday while officiating at a function to find a winner for Akiba Commercial Bank (ACB) clients contest as part of the bankís 10th anniversary
celebrations.
“The banks fail to understand that poor people also deserve to get loans as they are in the growing phase,” said the mayor.
Mr Kimbisa also urged banks to open more branches in the city, including kiosk branches, saying that the city market was not yet saturated with financial services.
“We have more than four million people in Dar es Salaam, it is like three regions in one, the market is not yet saturated,”insisted the Mayor.
An insurance officer named Ms Lucy Kwayu, came out as the winner riding away with a 10m/- worth Toyota Corona. Ms Kwayu said that she opened a fixed account with the aim of buying a car in December.
“This is a wish come true as I was saving the money for buying a car,” said the exited winner.
