DR SLAA WITHDRAWS PRIVATE MOTION ON FINANCIAL MISUSE

KARATU MP Dr Wilbrod Peter Slaa (Chadema) has withdrawn his Private Member’s Motion on alleged financial mismanagement by the CentralBank alleging reluctance bythe Speaker of the National Assembly to honour it and threats on his life.

Dr Slaa told a Press Conference here yesterday that he, and other members of the Opposition, would now disclose the “highly damaging” contents of his motion, the evidence of which is contained in three large volumes, at a public meeting in Jangwani, Dar es Salaam tomorrow.

He said he was aware of the legal consequences because he would not have parliamentary immunity at Jangwani. However, he would parade the “rot” in the glare of the public ‘come what may’. He said he was now beyond caring.

Dr Slaa said an anonymous private number phone user threatened his life through his mobile phone, but the threat was not vigorous enough to cow him. “I have a moral and constitutional obligation to defend the interests of the people,” he said.

He said he has withdrawn his motion mainly because the House Speaker Samwel Sitta has shown reluctance in scheduling it for presentation.

In his motion, Dr Slaa intended to reveal in the National Assembly the extent at which the Central Bank mismanaged the nation’s funds.

He also wanted a parliamentary select committee formed and detailed to investigate “the gross financial mismanagement in the Central Bank
